The present invention discloses a transcription factor gene for regulating lutein biosynthesis and its application. The transcription factor TePTF1 gene nucleotide sequence in the sequence table SEQ ID NO.1 shown; the amino acid sequence of the transcription factor encoding protein as shown in the sequence list SEQ ID NO.2. TePTF1 gene was cloned from mature flower tissue of marigold. Real time quantitative analysis showed that the expression of TePTF1 gene in mature flowers was significantly higher than that in immature flowers. When the TePTF1 gene was transiently expressed in tobacco leaves, the content of lutein increased. The SEQ ID NO.1 gene play a positive regulatory role in the biosynthesis of lutein in plants, the invention from Marigold by cloning of transcription factor TePTF1 can be used to improve the lutein content in plants.
