空气冷却器(aircooledheatexchanger)是利用空气冷却热流体的换热器，管内的热流体通过管壁和翅片与管外空气进行换热，所用的空气通常由通风机供给，空气冷却器简称空冷器,以空气作为冷却剂，可用作冷却器，也可用作冷凝器，空冷器主要由管束、支架和风机组成，空气冷却器热流体在管内流动，空气在管束外吹过，由于换热所需的通风量很大，而风压不高，故多采用轴流式通风机，管束的型式和材质对空冷器的性能影响很大，由于空气侧的传热分系数很小，故常在管外加翅片，以增加传热面积和流体湍动，减小热阻，空冷器大都采用径向翅片，空冷器中通常采用外径为25mm的光管，翅片高为12.5mm的低翅管和翅片高为16mm的高翅管，翅片一般用热导率高的材料(最常用的是铝)制成，缠绕或镶嵌到光管上，为强化空冷器的传热效果，可在进口空气中喷水增湿，这样既降低了空气温度，又增大了传热系数，但是现有的空气冷却器无法实现自动控制，长时间运行消耗了较多能源。
