The invention relates to a lutetium aluminum garnet transparent ceramics and a preparation method thereof, belonging to the field of transparent ceramics. Which is characterized in that the composition of transparent ceramics: Lu: 3 x RE: X Al: 5 O: 12; 0 < x < 0.15, RE Ce, Pr, Eu, Nd, Sm, Gd, Yb, Ho, Tm, Dy and a rare earth ion in Er, when x = 0 for pure lutetium aluminum garnet; when x > 0.15, due to the concentration quenching effect of rare earth ions, the relative luminous intensity of transparent ceramics decreased. By using the raw material selected and the technological conditions provided, the transparent ceramic with good light transmitting property can be prepared by the said material. The transparent ceramic provided by the invention has the characteristics of high density, fast attenuation and strong absorption radiation ability, and has potential application prospect in the field of scintillation radiation detection, upconversion luminescence and laser materials.
