The invention discloses a method for reducing methane emission from ruminant fermentation broth, including adding chitosan to ruminant diet, in which the molecular weight of chitosan is optimized to be 5W, and the added chitosan accounts for 0.8% or 1.6% of the total rumen fermentation substrate. The invention further finds that the concentration of NH3 N produced in rumen fermentation broth can be significantly reduced by adding chitosan in ruminant diet. The method of adding chitosan in Ruminant Diet to reduce methane emission of ruminant fermentation broth can effectively reduce methane emission of ruminants, in addition, it can effectively reduce the concentration of NH3 N produced in ruminant fermentation process, and has application prospect for reducing harmful gas emission and improving greenhouse effect. The method of the invention does not produce chemical residues, and the added chitosan does not produce excessive toxicity to animals, and has the advantages of safety, environmental protection and low cost.
