The present invention provides a Sc-containing casting hypoeutectic Al Mg2Si alloy and its production method, which consists of the following mass percentages: 2.53%~7.26% mg; 1.47%~4.24% Si; 0.15%~0.35% SC; residual Al; in which Mg and Si form 4.0%~11.5% Mg2Si phase in the alloy as-cast; on the basis of reasonable design of casting alloy composition, the present invention uses rare earth element Sc to eutectic Mg in the alloy. The modification of 2Si phase and refining effect on primary alpha-Al phase, eutectic Mg2Si transforms from coarse Chinese character to fine fibrous, primary alpha-Al transforms from dendrite to spherical crystal, and the mechanical properties, especially plasticity, are greatly improved. The tensile strength and elongation of the alloy are increased by 21.41% and 86.11% respectively. Sc is used as modifier, and as refiner, modification and refining agent. For one thing, it not only simplifies the smelting process, but also avoids the mutual \poisoning\ between different elements as modifiers and refiners, and destroys the effect of modification and refinement. The castings poured by the alloy can be used as structural parts of new lightweight materials in automobile and other transportation fields.
