The invention discloses a lake hydrology and water quality monitoring system of wireless sensor network and monitoring method based on the system, including wireless sensor information collection module, base station monitoring system; the wireless sensor information acquisition module includes basic acquisition unit distribution in the lake, in order to collect the information of hydrology and water quality of lakes; the base station to the lake hydrology and water quality information receiving the wireless sensor information collecting module, and a monitoring system to pass through a public communication network; to acquire and handle the lake hydrology and water quality information of the base station to use the monitoring system. The invention overcomes the single point of communication, is too dependent on the terrestrial communication system, signal collection deficiencies of traditional water quality monitoring technology in hydrology, successfully solved in the power field unattended work limited energy, limited communication capability and limited computing and storage capacity under the situation of large scale dynamic self-organizing network problem, realize the lake hydrology and water quality of large area monitoring, real-time monitoring functions.
