The present invention relates to a method and a transportation system for driving a mining vehicle in a mine. A plurality of mining vehicles (1a to 1D) are arranged successively and are driven between formation (13) in the work area (18a, 18b). The main vehicle within the formation (1a) is manually driven and follows the main vehicle from the vehicle (1b to 1D) without providing mechanical connections. In the work area, the formation is dissolved because each individual vehicle is driven separately. When the tasks assigned in the work area have been completed, the vehicles are combined into a formation to drive to the next working area.
