精萘是工业萘进一步提纯制得的含萘98.45%以上、结晶点不低于79.3℃的萘产品。精萘用于制造有机颜料中间体、樟脑丸、皮革和木材保护剂等；精萘主要从煤焦油中回收加工，另一来源是由石油炼制过程生产萘。煤焦油是一种组分复杂的有机混合物。萘的生产一般先从煤焦油中切出富含萘的馏份，经精馏或结晶制得含萘95％以上的工业萘，再以工业萘为原料生产精萘，在生产精萘转鼓切片时会产生大料的粉尘，这些粉尘通过布袋除尘器过滤，滤出的粉尘被废弃，有些企业也将这些粉尘再利用，但是通常是通过人工将产生的粉尘移动到化料的固定场所，经化料槽化料后，返回转鼓切片机重新切片。此工艺存在工人劳动强度大，回收效率低的缺陷。
