在陆上养殖业中,养殖池水的含氧量的高低对于池内鱼类健康、存活率及饲料换肉率的影响极大;当池水的含氧量越高,鱼儿越健康且抗病力越高,存活率及饲料换肉率亦越高,因而可大幅提高养殖利润。目前技术中,用于养殖业的打水机为水面上的以马达带动扇叶打水成上扬的水花,在水花落入池面之间,吸收空气中的氧气,以增加池水含氧量,然而,此方式仅能使表层的水含氧量提高,无法使底层的池水含氧量提升;为增加池水含氧量,除一般浮水式打水机,已知有沉水增氧装置,其有沉水式叶轮打水机与单向曝气机两种。其中沉水式叶轮打水装置是利用马达直接带动叶轮旋转,而叶轮在水中高速旋转时将池水自下往上打出水面,形成水花与空气接触,吸收氧气再落入池中。此装置优于浮水式打水机之处,在于可将底部的水往上打,造成叶片范围内的水可上下循环,其缺点在于范围太小、对整体池水增氧量有限。单向喷流式沉水曝气装置同样也是利用马达带动内部的叶轮转动,而叶轮高速旋转产生的压力喷流经长喷嘴口产生强劲水流与自凸出水面的进气管吸入的空气混合,自喷流管向外混合喷射。
