随着木质材料广泛应用于装潢和家具领域,住宅蛀虫害的增加,对人们生活产生严重影响,逐步受到人们重视。常见的家具害虫包括白蚁、木蠹虫、粉蠹虫等,这些尺寸不到5mm的小昆虫,幼虫会钻进家具内部啃蚀,造成密集空洞的穴道,等到成熟羽化后沿着穴道飞出孔洞,再次交配产卵,完成其生命周期循环。化学农药除虫,将使农业环境、生态环境或是人体健康造成损害。传统的自然干燥是把木材堆积在空旷的场地或通风的棚舍内,利用空气作传热、传湿介质,利用太阳辐射的热量,使木材中水分逐步排出,达到一定的干燥程度。缺点是:干燥条件如温度、相对湿度不能人为控制,干燥时间较长,不能干燥到较低的含水率,而且占地面积大,资金占用大,干燥期间木材易遭菌虫危害而发生变色、腐朽和虫蛀,易开裂、变形。而用过热蒸汽干燥木材投资费用较高,并主要利用蒸汽的汽化潜热,冷凝水因回收麻烦,往往未予利用而造成浪费和增加成本,主要适用于生产规模较大或有现成的蒸汽可供使用的企业,因该法需昂贵的蒸汽锅炉而不甚适用。
