一般运动鞋的鞋底由两部分构成，位于中间层的中底以及位于底层的大底。通常位于底层的大底多采用耐磨的橡胶材料，中间层多采用EVA发泡材料，这是由于EVA发泡材料是一种化学结构含有无数闭孔泡的聚乙烯泡沫制品，故作为中底材料可使运动鞋具有更加舒适和减震的效果。其制作一般采用将EVA与发泡混合料碾压成长扁状㬵板，然后将其放置于高温模具中内热膨胀发泡成为鞋中底成品。高温模具如附图1所示，下模具1固定于机身上，上模具铰接在下模具1上，下模具1中凹设有鞋中底槽11，下模具1内设有冷、热水管2，其作用是在上模具上的成型凸缘压入下模具1中的鞋中底槽11使鞋中底成型过程时，与外界的冷、热水管道相连，对下模具1进行加热或降温，以促使产品的加热成型及冷却取出。从上述的生产过程可以知道，由于下模具1埋设有冷、热水管2，且鞋中底槽11所占空间也大，故整个模具较为庞大，当产品更新时的更换模具是个费时、费力的活。
