Hydraulic cement containing calcium silicate and at least one phosphate compound. The content of the phosphate compound is sufficient to react with most of the calcium hydroxide produced during hydration of the cement to form hydroxyapatite or other calcium phosphate. The phosphate compound is preferably a calcium phosphate. The cement is not only suitable for biomedicine and dentistry, but also suitable for engineering applications. Calcium hydroxide reacted with phosphate to form calcium silicate and other calcium phosphate at the nanometer scale. The reduced calcium hydroxide content in the cured cement increases its strength and lowers its pH. The amount of hydroxyapatite and the reduced pH make cement bioactive and suitable for medical and dental implants, such as replacement of bone and dental materials. Because of its high strength, the cement is also used in structural / Engineering applications.
