A starter for starting an engine is disclosed. The starter comprises a starter body, a main electromagnetic switch and an auxiliary electromagnetic switch. The starter body includes a motor that generates torque when the power is supplied. The main electromagnetic switch is provided for selectively disconnecting and closing the circuit for supplying power from the battery to the motor. The auxiliary electromagnetic switch is provided for selectively switching circuits between the high resistance path and the low resistance path. The starter is characterized in that the auxiliary electromagnetic switch is fixed to the fixing device, and the fixing device is fixed to only one of the starter body and the main electromagnetic switch.
