Power saving transmission method based on uplink polling for real-time communication in wireless local area network

The mobile station (106) establishes a real time communication link through the access point (102) for carrying voice or other time varying data. The WLAN subsystem (204) of the mobile station is usually in a low power state. When the communication link is started, the mobile station informs that the access point is based on the power saving transmission mode (614) of the uplink polling, and the access point retains the resources to ensure the required quality of service. The mobile station starts the first processing by starting the WLAN subsystem (712), obtaining the WLAN channel (407) and sending the polling frame. When the polling frame is successfully received, the access point is ready to respond to the frame reply in the service window at an unspecified time, during which time the mobile station maintains the WLAN subsystem and is ready to receive the response frame. When the response frame is successfully received, the mobile station places the WLAN subsystem back into a low power state.
