A method of culturing Penaeus vannamei in freshwater cage was introduced. The open freshwater area with water depth over 20 m and flowing water was selected. Penaeus vannamei was cultured in three-layer nylon cage. The dissolved oxygen in the aquaculture water was kept above 7 mg/L and the water temperature was 23-31 C. The desalinated Penaeus vannamei seedlings were put into the cage, and the temporary culture pond was used for three days before the shrimp seedlings were put into the cage. The shrimp seedlings are adapted to the water temperature in the waters. The shrimp seedlings are fed with shrimp medicine in hanging bags for disease prevention in the first 10 days after they are put into cages. The omnivorous fish are nested in the second and third cages to clean up the algae attachments and shells of shrimps. The shrimp seedlings are fed with liver-protecting feed 30 days before they are cultured, and then live earthworms are fed. The shrimp can be salvaged after 3-4 months of cultivation. The method of the invention is scientific and reasonable, has high survival rate of fish and shrimp, low breeding cost, remarkable economic benefit, little environmental pollution, and is especially suitable for large-scale cultivation.
