电解槽由槽体、阳极和阴极组成,多数用隔膜将阳极室和阴极室隔开。按电解液的不同分为水溶液电解槽、熔融盐电解槽和非水溶液电解槽三类。现在生产烧碱采用离子膜电解法,离子膜通常使用阳离子膜,先使精制的食盐饱和溶液流入电解槽阳极室,以直流电通过,发生电解反应,产生离子的迁移和放电。溶液中的负离子在阳极生成Cl2,正离子移向阴极生成NaOH和H2。目前,生产烧碱的过程中,电解槽在停车循环超过四小时需要排液并洗槽一次,电解槽排液后也要洗槽两次,系统停车及日常单台电解槽停车检修时,都需用净水对电解槽的阴极室和阳极室进行水洗,洗槽水量较大,但是洗槽水大多当做废水排掉,造成大量的浪费;再者就是,为了提高电解效率,保证最佳的槽温,通常采用蒸汽换热器对盐液加热到一定温度可提高电解效率,而蒸汽换热器需不断投入新蒸汽来提高盐液的温度,蒸汽消耗量较大,增加了企业的生产成本。
