藤蔓植物是指茎部细长、不能直立、只能依附在其他物体(如树、墙、支架等)或匍匐于地面上生长的一类植物，在蔬菜类中常见的藤蔓作物有豆角、黄瓜、丝瓜、苦瓜等，种植时需要设立支架将主蔓牵引上架，以期能让作物良好生长。目前藤蔓作物的支架多采用棚架、花架或人字形架等，其中人字形架因具有搭架简单易行，稳固性好，外侧受光面积大，作物藤蔓可以顺着支架外侧攀爬，产量高，品质佳等优点广泛用于经济类作物的栽培中。由于人字形支架采用底部分开、顶端固定在一起的结构形式，且每一株作物需对应一根支杆，导致搭设人字形架用材较多，在作物生长中后期两侧作物在顶端聚集造成作物叶片遮挡光线，降低支架内侧的采光效果，降低叶片的光合作用，影响作物的生长，且因外侧和顶端的叶片遮挡致使支架内侧通风透气性较差，湿度大，易发生病虫害，不仅增加作物的栽培成本，还增加管理的人工成本。另外传统的人字形支架占地面积较大，不是适合大棚内种植使用。
